Anniversary Session at Colorado National Monument
Anyone else an early riser!? I sure was for Chelsea and Charles’ anniversary session at Colorado National Monument in Grand Junction, CO. Now, I may have had an extra cup of coffee… or two, but these love birds and their photos made the early wakeup call SO worth it! Chelsea and Charles are Grand Junction locals, but they haven’t spent much time at the National Monument so I was so excited to explore the red rocks with them! There is always so much history behind park sessions and I love learning more about it as we explore the location we are shooting at.
Anniversary Session at Colorado National Monument
I don’t think it is any secret how naturally beautiful Colorado is, but something I admire is the dedication to making sure these elements are properly preserved. The history can be seen in how the rock formations have formed over the years, and as a result provide insanely gorgeous views and backdrops for sessions! Colorado National Monument is no stranger to the preservation of its beauty. It’s massive monoliths glow red and orange against the sunlight and there is just the slightest touch of green along the canyons. I just love the views that could go on for miles! Fun fact, the rocks in the park are MILLIONS of years old but still stand strong! Talk about a symbol for a strong and timeless love story!
We had so much fun hiking to the location for their couples session. Because Chelsea and Charles chose a sunrise session, the hike to the spot was dark and a little tricky. However as we climbed to the top we could slowly see the sun start to wake up and light the entire landscape. Due to the fires nearby it was a hazy sunrise, but that almost made it even more magical! The sun was a fiery red and cast this stunning rose glow allowing for some super whimsical and romantic sunrise photos. Once the sun fully rose it was time for more fun! Chelsea and Charles are definitely down for adventure which made this session extra exciting. They were willing to sit on the edge of a cliff (eek!) resulting in a gorgeous shot overlooking the canyon. They even danced on what seemed like the edge of the world!
Dressed in white and neutral tones, Chelsea and Charles blended beautifully into the natural elements of Colorado National Monument.
The towering rock formations were breathtaking and I still can’t get over the color! The day turned out to be quite hazy but the monoliths were clear as day, as were Chelsea and Charles. From the beautiful sunrise to the joy and love shared between Chelsea and Charles I just absolutely adored this day.
So what are all the fine details in order to get a session like this? First, you will need to obtain a permit, which you can easily do on the Colorado National Monument website! They even have details if you want to go the extra mile and hold your wedding ceremony here! But be sure to check the updates as restrictions have changed from year to year. They do only have a limited number of wedding permits they will issue per year though — so if you’re thinking this is your dream location be sure to pick a date, quick!
